NEWS  -  OPPORTUNITIES  -  REQUESTS

Dear Dancers,

The year for the present Board of the Davidsonville Dance Club is coming to an end, and it soon will be time to nominate new officers for 2007-2008. Send your nominations by e-mail or phone, or make them at the May 26th dance. Election night is June 9.

Looking back over the last year we can be proud of many accomplishments, and still we have more to look forward to in the months ahead.

1.       Our Saturday workshops have been enjoyed by many and have lured a number of new members. We have brushed up on our steps and learned many more with a diversified group of instructors. You, too, may wish to join the next session.

2.       We instituted a Friday night class along with the opportunity to dance with several big bands in the area. Reviews were mixed, and we recently ended the activities, although those evenings also brought in new members who came to our lessons and Saturday dances.

3.       The income from the Saturday workshops has allowed us the opportunity to purchase a new sound system that will be used by any instructor. As soon as we are able to purchase a suitable cabinet to safely store the components, we will purchase and install the system. Secure cabinets have been more elusive than we anticipated, but we still are looking.

4.       Presently we are enlisting the help of many volunteers who are painting the interior of Ford Hall. The process of cleaning, spackling, painting, and adding a decorative touch will take many weeks of dedication, but the end result will be worth the effort.  Volunteers are welcome.

5.       For so many years a wooden dance floor has been on our wish list, and within the next few months, it will become a reality. A floating floor will be an improvement from the hard cement floor and will alleviate tired leg muscles. We’re having experts look at the room to determine the best floor for our purpose. We will report soon what the options are.

The election for the new Board will be in June, so look around and decide who will make good nominees for a Board that will continue to complete the work that this year’s Board has begun.
